Vison21

In 2006 Salem Samhoud established that the Netherlands had become a country without a vision. Our country, that traditionally has been characterized as a united, sober and industrious country had become one where politics is polarized, citizens feel unsafe and are no longer proud of their country. In short, everyone talks at cross purposes. With the citizens’ initiative Visie21 &samhoud wanted to call a halt to this downward spiral and to bring back pride and confidence in Dutch society. The way in which we did that was the same as what we have gained a great deal of practical experience in: creating a vision.

In 2006, in the space of seven months more than 30 public arenas were organized across the country. Each time with different people who spent an evening examining a vision for the Netherlands. A Guiding Coalition with representatives from across the country then drafted an overall vision. Finally the vision for the Netherlands in 2021, to which 2,500 Dutch men and women contributed, was presented. At the start of 2007 the vision was translated into a strategy and into concrete projects to benefit the audacious goals for our country in 2021. Every &samhoud staff member invested part of his or her time in Vision21.
