Mirror of Humanity, When technology meets humanity

During SAIL 2025, Jimmy Nelson Studio and &samhoud present Mirror of Humanity, an interactive experience that places you at the heart of the dialogue between human and machine. It reveals how technology portrays you, where bias and assumptions creep into that image, and how you can transform that perspective.

Artificial Intelligence permeates our daily lives. From recruitment processes to credit applications. Algorithms make increasingly more decisions about us. But what happens when AI reduces us to mere data? When we’re viewed through the lens of stereotypes and prejudices?

Mirror of Humanity combines art, technology and human reflection into one powerful experience.

Together with artist Jimmy Nelson, we developed Mirror of Humanity: an interactive experience that makes the tension between humanity and technology tangible. It was showcased during SAIL 2025 alongside Nelson’s monumental artwork ‘Waves around the World’, a celebration of human diversity and dignity. Opposite stands an AI installation that confronts visitors with how algorithms perceive them.

The magic lies in the dialogue. Visitors don’t just discover how AI categorises them, but can engage in conversation with it. What’s accurate about that image? What’s missing? And how does AI perception change once you provide feedback yourself?

Mirror of Humanity makes an abstract complex issue concrete. It demonstrates how we as humans can regain control over technology. Not by rejecting AI, but by consciously engaging in dialogue with it.
